Supporting Scottish Drinks

We have a strong track record of working with leading brand names in the drinks industry including supplying pallets to many of Scotland’s famous whisky distilleries.

Most recently we have been working collaboratively with one of Scotland’s oldest and largest Scotch grain whisky producers, The North British Distillery, which has the capacity to produce more than 70 million litres of alcohol per year. Established in 1885 in Edinburgh, North British Distillery approached us with historical pallet drawings from its archives. Using our Pallet Design System software, we verified the design and weight-loading capacity, and are now manufacturing bespoke 2m x 2m butt pallets.

Across in the west, we are working with The Glasgow Distillery – an award-winning producer of gin, rum and whisky. It is one of Scotland’s first licensed distillers, and after re-opening in 2014, it became the first single malt whisky distillery in Glasgow for more than 100 years. We have worked with the team to design and manufacture hogshead and barrel pallets used to store the whisky through its maturation process.

Our specially designed bespoke ‘whisky pallets’ are produced to withstand the particular demands of the whisky industry, such as excessive weight-bearing capabilities and an unusually long life span for holding whisky casks whilst the product matures in storage.

We work alongside our customers to ensure that the pallets we manufacture are absolutely fit for purpose, with a particular focus on health and safety compliance. Our whisky pallets carry more than 6000kg and are built to last – in fact, we are aware of pallets that we manufactured at least 30 years ago still being used. We also use the latest pallet design technology to ensure the structure of the pallets is such that the casks and their precious contents are sufficiently supported.

Back in 2016, we were approached by the new Isle of Harris Distillers to supply our specialist whisky pallets. Simon Erlanger, Managing Director of Isle of Harris Distillers, said: “Due to its industry-leading reputation, Scott Pallets was a natural choice when we needed to source pallets on which to store our precious casks on the island. It was a bonus to discover the family’s Harris roots and strong emotional ties to the place and we are delighted to be working with them.”

As a major supplier to the Scottish whisky industry, we have forged many longstanding relationships, and developed specialist knowledge and competency in design to support this vital Scottish business sector.
