Ricky joined HLC (part of the Scott Group) in 2002. Ricky is a driven individual who effectively manages the gap between shop floor and supervisor. His ability to get the best out of a team is a key skill, which has seen him progress from pallet maker to supervisor. In the supervisor role, he is developing his production planning and forecasting skills while completing his ILM2 Supervisory and Management training. His combination of hands-on pallet making experience combined with his developing management skills and natural motivational style, make him a vital part of the HLC team and an obvious Rising Star.
Terence (Terry) joined HLC (part of the Scott Group) in 2011 as part of the operations team responsible for the business expansion programme, which included the commissioning and development of the Upwood manufacturing site. He has built on his solid manufacturing background and has completed the ILM3 in Leadership and Management. He is a strong team player with a charismatic style and can do attitude which was identified as strengths that could be successfully transferred to his current role as Sales Manager which he began in 2016.
Claire joined the Scott Pallets team in 2010. She has progressed from Office Junior to her current key role as Operations Support Manager. As part of the Burntisland site’s senior management team, Claire is able to deputise for the site manager in his absence. Her attention to detail and willingness to take on new responsibilities has created opportunities for her to develop her role to become involved in new areas such as quality management, production planning and logistics.
She is also responsible for customer service and has established excellent customer relationships, which together with the systems and processes she administers on site, ensure customer orders are fulfilled on time and in full.
Chris joined Scott Direct in 2016. He is a natural salesman with excellent technical knowledge and a professional approach, which is essential to his role, developing sales opportunities in new and existing customers. He has quickly established customer relationships which have delivered double-digit growth while positively managing price and stock holding negotiations with many existing customers. He has helped improve our sales processes and has been instrumental in the development of a web ordering service which several key accounts have adopted. He has also played a key role in securing Scott Direct’s place on the Scotland Excel PPE framework.
Ella joined Scott Pallets in 2013 as an office administrator. Her willingness to relocate from Wigan to Trafford Park site created the opportunity for her to progress to Site Assistant Manager. She provides support in all aspects of the day to day running of the reconditioned pallet site management and is able to deputise confidently to cover the site manager’s leave. She has been instrumental in driving up the site’s transport and health and safety audit scores and is keen to develop her knowledge of the business’ accounting processes.
Nathan joined Scott Pallets in 2015 as a pallet maker. His ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines is a real strength, which is very important to the role of Team Leader, which he has progressed into. He enthusiastically seeks out development and training opportunities and has recently passed his forklift driver training. This willingness to take on new responsibilities identifies him as one of our Rising Stars.
Keri-Ann joined Scott Direct six years ago as a trainee office administrator and quickly demonstrated great promise and commitment to providing best in class service to all customers. Keri-Ann very quickly progressed in her trainee role building product knowledge and understanding customer behaviour and was then able to influence new trainees with her positive can-do attitude. She is passionate about the service she delivers and can be counted on to handle situations with great character and integrity making a consistent positive contribution to the service team. She recently independently implemented, an initiative, to build strategic alliances with top-tier customers which resulted in a recent promotion to Sales Assistant. Keri-ann can be trusted to find a solution to any problem, identifying and eliminating root cause to remove the chance of re-occurrence.
Callum joined Scott Group IT team in 2015, straight out of school, aged sixteen. With careful mentoring and support from his experienced team, he has grown in confidence and ability. The support analyst role requires good interpersonal skills, teamwork and a structured methodical approach. Callum has demonstrated his ability to deliver a consistently high standard of work on time and often under pressure. Some key achievements have been the implementation of an Office upgrade, an anti-virus upgrade and improvements in our help –desk customer service processes.

Michelle joined the business in 2003 as part of the finance team. As the business grew, so did her responsibilities as Management Accountant with periods working at a senior level, in both the packaging and pallet divisions where she demonstrated a consistent ability to multi-task and deliver quality work, to deadlines even under pressure. It is, however, her recent successful transfer into a completely new role as Business Systems Analyst within the IT team that has highlighted Michelle’s strength of character in taking on a new challenge and career direction. Her commitment to learning new skills and adapting to a more collaborative way of working as part of a team underpins her success in the new role. She has complimented her in-depth knowledge of the business’ finance processes, by learning new technical skills including SQL reporting, Advanced ZAP reporting, NAV reporting. This type of ongoing development and learning is greatly valued by the business.
Krzysztof (Kris) joined the business in 2007 as a pallet maker and was then promoted to a supervisor role because of his consistent willingness to take responsibility together with his determination to fulfil and exceed customer expectations. He has recently been responsible for integrating a major new customer with complex needs. He has shown attention to detail in all related areas including specification quality management and production manpower planning to ensure secure supply. Together with his ability to lead and motivate his colleagues, he has demonstrated a positive impact on his team and the business, which in turn benefits our customers.
Roxanne Dean

Roxanne joined the business in 2012 as an apprentice in the customer contacts centre. She excelled in the role - building effective customer relationships and communication. Her passion for learning and willingness to get involved in new responsibilities led her into the logistics role where her enthusiasm and skill in building relationships has also been invaluable in co-ordinating between multiple customer pallet recover collection points and hauliers. It is her willingness to step forward to try new things which stands out. As a result, Roxanne also acts as the site’s Health and Safety co-ordinator and she is even keen to get involved in the operations side of the business, so who knows what role Roxanne may fulfil in the future.
Craig Mountford

Craig joined the business in 2012 as a Production Operative for new pallet manufacturing. He has a particularly strong work ethic which is valued by his team and the business. His proven reliability and dedicated hard work, together with an evident ambition, have enabled him to expand his responsibilities. These now include the planning, preparation and set up of the nail benches to meet changing daily production plans. This is a key task in our quality management process which requires a consistent attention to detail.
Simon joined HLC in 2013 as part of the team recruited to work at the Peterborough site when it was first established. His first role was as decorator but quickly expanded to pallet maker then supervisor. His confident, professional manner and willingness to take on new challenges has seen him develop his role further, to take on responsibility for all health, safety and quality matters on site. His strong desire for personal development is supported by the business as he is encouraged to study for his NEBOSH qualifications.
Rhys joined the Scott Pallets, Barry team in 2006. Since then his commitment to continuous improvement and productivity improvement have underpinned his promotion to Team Leader. His consistent enthusiasm and ability to drive improvement have made him an invaluable member of the Group-wide SMED Changeover Improvement Team. He has helped to significantly reduce product changeover times on one of our most important automated lines, from three hours to less than one.
Lucia has been in the business for over 11 years during which time she has developed her role in customer service to become the Bristol site office manager. Her depth of knowledge and willingness to solve problems has made her the go-to person for customers and colleagues alike. Her personal time management skills are excellent which ensures tasks she is responsible for are consistently completed on time and with enthusiasm.
Mathew has been with the business for over four years during which time she has developed his role at eh Derby site from pallet repairer to become an excellent all round yard man who is able to take on repairing, sorting and even saw work. He has now progressed to become an experienced forklift driver who uses every available minute to ensure the efficient, smooth running of the yard even when working under pressure to meet customer demands he is calm and professional at all times.
Sam joined the business eight years ago as an office junior. She quickly progressed to join the timber control team and over the last five years, she has gained great experience in raw material stock control and valuation. She uses Navision to prepare time critical period end data for the finance team. This skill is also particularly valued during business acquisition due diligence processes when stock has to be accurately counted and valued within tight deadlines. Flexible part-time working has supported Sam to continue to develop her career while managing her family commitments.
Robert is an ideas and solutions person. His analytical thinking has helped to highlight important opportunities for improvement in both the in-house stock management processes and back through our supply chain. Changes implemented in these areas, supported by the data analysis he has undertaken, have delivered significant customer service improvements. His ability to think strategically will undoubtedly contribute to the business's future success.
