Career Ready: helping young people prepare for work

We are delighted to be formally partnering with Career Ready which works across the UK to connect young people with the world of work. The organisation links up employers with schools and colleges to provide 14 to 18 year olds with mentors, internships, master classes, and employer-led activities that help to unlock their potential.

We have committed to mentor three high school pupils for the next two years. Our three mentors, Tracy Trotter, Group Finance Director; Gavin Wallace, Operations Manager at Scott Pallets’ manufacturing division; and Marie Spaven, Service Manager at Scott Direct, will be meeting their pupils once a month in addition to hosting a four-week paid internship next summer.

Tracy Trotter said: “Finding your way on the career ladder isn’t always a straightforward path and we’re delighted to be able to offer these school pupils the opportunity to see how business really works – encouraging them to learn through experience and by offering our guidance based on real-life scenarios.

“Partnering with Career Ready means we can help students grow in confidence and gain essential skills for work – which helps us to grow a pipeline of local talent for the future workforce. Not only that, the experience has positive effects on our own employees and business as a whole.”
