Vending machines target £50k cost saving

Heil Farid, the manufacturer of refuse and recycling vehicles, has targeted at least £50,000 in savings thanks to its new vending machines. The machines were installed, stocked and commissioned by Scott Direct in less than a week at Heil Farid’s Dalgety Bay site in Fife.

Gemma Beswick, Buyer at Heil Farid, said: “Scott Direct has been an important supplier to us for almost 20 years, and we are delighted that we can now rely on the business to provide these convenient vending machines to help us manage our stock more effectively.

“In just three months we have seen considerable savings on both hard and soft cost and we plan to add another two systems to the business within the next 12 months. The reporting that the machines provide is very good, and data is visible for both management and team leaders to see. This enables us to implement changes to reduce costs further, for example looking at processes to reduce the usage of grinding discs.”

Heil Farid carries two types of stock, consignment and managed. Consignment stock, such as gloves, welding consumables and cutting discs, which are critical to production, is held in the machine, with a mirror image kept in stock at Scott Direct to ensure it never runs out. The managed stock, including safety boots, hand tools and other high value items, is held at Scott Direct, ordered through the machine and delivered within 48 hours.
