Bespoke support for James Jones

Since 2012, Scott Direct has been a supplier to the timber processing group, James Jones & Sons. Primarily providing workwear and PPE as well as engineering consumables and janitorial products.

With sites across the UK, the business has, like us, grown through numerous acquisitions, and we have been there at each step to help support the transition of new sites into the group.

Working in partnership with our buyer, we developed a new workwear ordering process to easily facilitate data collection and processing of bulk orders using our manpacking service. This has greatly assisted with the efficient rollout of workwear, on time and within budget, to all new sites as they have come on board.

As part of the long-term plan, our order channel had to provide a way of controlling what sites were able to purchase, ensuring staff were adhering to the approved range. As such, we delivered a bespoke web portal to enable sites to place online orders from the approved range of products, ensuring their compliance with the core product range and purchasing budgets.

During the initial process of setting the core range of PPE items, we worked throughout the group with key stakeholders to deliver product trials. This involved testing a variety of items at a number of key sites with James Jones’ employees, giving them the opportunity to provide feedback on product performance.

Scott Direct continues to work collaboratively with both its supply chain and its customers to ensure the product range and support is appropriate as customer needs evolve. This forward-thinking approach also helps to ensure exceptional requests are dealt with in the most efficient and effective way.

The simple online ordering process ensures the account is well managed and this is backed up by regular review meetings. As a result, James Jones has improved cost control, has better compliance with HSE.
