Group HR Director


Role Definition: 

The HR Director is responsible for the establishment, development and implementation of the HR and Learning and Development strategy across the business (comprising c.1300 employees).

The HR Director will lead the existing HR team comprising the Group HR Manager, Group HR Administrator, 4 HR Business Partners based regionally around the UK and the Payroll/Benefits Team.  The role is based in our Dunfermline Head Office and may require some travel around the UK from time to time. 


    • Working with and as part of the operational Board to formulate the HR/Learning and Development strategy in support of the company’s wider challenges and objectives
    • Leading the organisation’s HR Department including recruitment, learning and development, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, employee management, HR information systems and employee relations
    • Responsibility for developing, implementing and prioritising best practice in support of the company’s employee objectives
    • Reporting on key performance indicators and agreed employee metrics
    • Leading the analysis of employee feedback and data with the aim of creating a better working environment and engaged culture
    • Defining and supporting the company’s approach to recruitment and employee retention
    • Establishing and monitoring processes and procedures to minimise legal and commercial risks in the company’s HR practices and ensuring statutory compliance with relevant legislation
    • Identifying and supporting development areas/areas of concern for the business and working with Regional Directors to address these
    • Delivering strategic projects and change programs in consultation with relevant Directors and Managers
    • Managing and developing direct reporting staff and the wider HR/Payroll  team
    • Managing and controlling departmental expenditure within agreed budgets
    • Maintaining awareness and knowledge of HR best practice and developments in employment law and other relevant legislation


Knowledge and Experience 

  • A proven track record of working in a generalist senior HR role
  • Experience of developing and delivering operational and strategic HR and Learning and Development services in a multi-site organisation
  • Experience of leading and organising an HR and Learning and Development team to support business objectives
  • Experience of being responsible for the financial management of the HR and Learning and Development service
  • CIPD qualified or qualified by experience
  • Up to date knowledge of Employment Law and current HR and Learning and Development best practice
  • Commercially aware, with proven experience of implementing strategic projects which have made a significant impact on organisational performance
  • High level of business integrity and professionalism with the ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to role model behaviours and values, and expect the same in others
  • Ability to support and mentor senior leaders in their operational and leadership responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade and influence.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office
