As part of our 30th-anniversary celebrations, we wanted to recognise 30 rising stars in our business, and reward them for their commitment, performance and success. We will be showcasing all of our Rising Stars here over the next few months.
Kathryn (Kat) joined the business in 2015, completely new to the world of wooden pallet manufacturing. Her warm manner and effective customer service, together with her adaptability and willingness to learn new systems and processes, stand out as key attributes. Her enthusiasm and record of stepping forward to get involved means that Kat has grown her role to include management of the site NCR process (Non-conformance reporting), which is a key part of our quality management system. She has also shown an aptitude in supporting our central HR team which has been invaluable in facilitating the integration of recent acquisitions.
Michelle joined the business in 2003 as part of the finance team. As the business grew, so did her responsibilities as Management Accountant with periods working at a senior level, in both the packaging and pallet divisions where she demonstrated a consistent ability to multi-task and deliver quality work, to deadlines even under pressure. It is, however, her recent successful transfer into a completely new role as Business Systems Analyst within the IT team that has highlighted Michelle’s strength of character in taking on a new challenge and career direction. Her commitment to learning new skills and adapting to a more collaborative way of working as part of a team underpins her success in the new role. She has complimented her in-depth knowledge of the business’ finance processes, by learning new technical skills including SQL reporting, Advanced ZAP reporting, NAV reporting. This type of ongoing development and learning is greatly valued by the business.
Zoe joined the Scott Direct team in 2016. Her skills have developed rapidly and she now has a key role in supporting the business’ growing e-commerce and multichannel selling requirements. Her astute listening skills and attention to detail, combined with her developing technical competence in platforms such as Magento Enterprise e-commerce ensure her work is of the consistently high standard required to support the external communication of our product offering.
Roxanne joined the business in 2012 as an apprentice in the customer contacts centre. She excelled in the role - building effective customer relationships and communication. Her passion for learning and willingness to get involved in new responsibilities led her into the logistics role where her enthusiasm and skill in building relationships has also been invaluable in co-ordinating between multiple customer pallet recover collection points and hauliers. It is her willingness to step forward to try new things which stands out. As a result, Roxanne also acts as the site’s Health and Safety co-ordinator and she is even keen to get involved in the operations side of the business, so who knows what role Roxanne may fulfil in the future.
Blair joined the Scott Direct team 2016. He is an innovative thinker and excellent communicator with a great understanding of the practical application of lean management. His ability to plan and apply theory to practice effectively has helped drive out waste and non-value added activities, which have resulted in a zero cost, complete remodelling of the goods inwards process at our central distribution hub. His can-do attitude and consistent, positive delivery against commitments are valued by his team and the business.
Craig joined the business in 2012 as a Production Operative for new pallet manufacturing. He has a particularly strong work ethic which is valued by his team and the business. His proven reliability and dedicated hard work, together with an evident ambition, have enabled him to expand his responsibilities. These now include the planning, preparation and set up of the nail benches to meet changing daily production plans. This is a key task in our quality management process which requires a consistent attention to detail.
Krzysztof (Kris) joined the business in 2007 as a pallet maker and was then promoted to a supervisor role because of his consistent willingness to take responsibility together with his determination to fulfil and exceed customer expectations. He has recently been responsible for integrating a major new customer with complex needs. He has shown attention to detail in all related areas including specification quality management and production manpower planning to ensure secure supply. Together with his ability to lead and motivate his colleagues, he has demonstrated a positive impact on his team and the business, which in turn benefits our customers.
